Now follow the pathhighlighted in below screenshot and download the latest client mediafile(highlighted).
Once the file isdownloaded, we need to extract it. This file has extension .SAR(SAP Archive), to extract it we need SAPCAR utility.
If SAPCAR is notdownloaded, just search for SAPCAR on SAP service marketplaceportal(http://support.sap.com/swdc) and execute following command to extract any .SAR file.

In SE73 tansaction, there are 4 menus to manage fonts:

  • Font families
    • You may create a font family either by using this menu, or by installing a TrueType font (see below)
    • List of fonts are shown in 2 colors, blue and yellow:
      • Blue: represent non-TrueType fonts
      • Yellow: represent TrueType fonts. The font family description also have 4 last characters equal to regular expression [_N][_B][_I][_X] which indicates what styles are installed (see System font below), where: N = normal, B = bold, I = italic, X = bold + italic. For example Arial N_I_ means that the family font is a true type font with normal and italic, but there is neither bold nor bold + italic. Arial NBIX contains all styles.
    • Attributes:
      • Language Vector: this is used to indicate the type of character set that is defined in the font, that is used in Font Conversion algorithm so that to not convert an Arabic font into a Japanese font. Possible values are: * , J (Japan), A (Arabic), 3 (Korean), 1 (China), 8RW (Cyrillic), 2 (Thai), G (Greek), M (Ming).
      • RTF information: it is needed to display fonts on screen and on print preview. It can usually be defined as fromanfcharset&& windowsfontname. For example, RTF information for Verdana would be fromanfcharset&& Verdana. For more information, see Microsoft RTF specification.
  • System fonts
    • Font conversion: for the selected system font, and for each device type, SAP determines and displays the printer font that will be used for printing.
  • Printer fonts
    • List of device types
      • All existing device types in the system are displayed
      • Functions
        • Generate Font: you must select one device type, all fonts are checked
        • Check Print Controls: you must select one device type, SAP displays values of printer controls used for each printer font defined for this device type
        • Load AFM File: you must select one device type and select an AFM file to upload (the AFM data must be version 2.0 and marked as so). SAP reads the AFM file and updates the font metrics of the existing TrueType font which corresponds to the AFM file
    • List of fonts available for the selected device type
      • Device type and Family columns are shown in 2 colors, blue and yellow:
        • Blue: represent non-TrueType fonts (for both non-proportional and proportional fonts)
        • Yellow: represent TrueType fonts
      • Proportional fonts (whatever the are TrueType or not) have Font and CPI columns equal respectively to 'Scalable' and 'AFM' (note: CPI may be '0,00' when the Font Metrics are not defined yet).
      • Each font may have the following attributes:
        • Font size: it indicates the size in decipoints (120 means 12 points). It must be 0 if you define a proportional font.
        • Scalable: it means that this device type (printer model) is capable of using the AFM data to scale the font to any required size. If you enter a font size of 0, you should select Scalable, though it is mandatory only for HPL2 driver for reason of backwards compatibility with releases before 3.0 (as explained in message TD375). If you enter a font size > 0, you cannot select Scalable.
        • CPI (Characters Per Inch; it is also called character pitch). CPI is only used for non-proportional fonts to indicate the spacing between each character, while the font size indicates the height only (unlike proportional fonts for which the width of each character is calculated as being the font size multiplied by the width defined in font metrics (AFM) or in TrueType Font file).
        • Print controls 1 and 2
        • Proportional: this flag is only available for HPL2 driver. The text hereafter is copied from TDPRFTPROP data element documentation:

Some SAPscript printer drivers (for example, the PCL-5 driver HPL2) generate a printer command for font selection from the definition of a printer font. Each SAPscript font family (such as COURIER, HELVE, TIMES) has an attribute 'proportional' or 'non-roportional', which is specified in SE73 in the list of the font families when the font family is created, but for certain fonts (such as Asian fonts for Japanese, Chinese, etc.) this attribute does not correspond to the 'proportional font' attribute expected by the printer in the font command.
For particular printer drivers, this field allows to overrule the 'proportional font' attribute determined in the list of font families in SE73 for a printer font.
Example: The font JPMINCHO (Japanese font in SAPscript) is flagged as 'nonproportional' in the list of font families in SE73, but PCL-5 printers handle this font as proportional font and require the attribute 'proportional font' in the corresponding PCL-5 printer command.

        • Generic Encoding Vector (source: TDPOSTENC data element documentation):

This printer font attribute is only significant for device types with the printer driver POST (that is, PostScript printers).
If the attribute is activated, the PostScript driver sends a PostScript command to modify the character set vector (PostScript encoding vector) if the font is used. If the attribute is deactivated, the font is used with its 'built-in' normal character set (that is, PostScript encoding).

      • Functions (menu or button)
        • Edit metrics: this function is only allowed for proportional fonts which are not TrueType
        • TrueType Fonts.. (enable/disable): When a device type is created, TrueType fonts are enabled by default, i.e. all TrueType fonts are automatically defined for the device type (no need to add them)
        • Generate Font function
          • This function is only for checking validity of one or several fonts. The term 'generation' is misleading as it is done implicity each time SAP uses a font. Generation corresponds to storing valid font data in buffer table STXL table (precisely: lines with RELID='XX' in client 000).
          • Excerpt from SAP message TD341 (7.0):

Run-time objects are generated automatically when texts are formatted (for example, with the standard text editor or in documentation maintenance) so that 'manual' generation with the invoked function is not necessary. The function can be used to test the generation of a certain printer font and identify possible errors in the font definition.
